The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve is a unique archival facility created to preserve representational bodies of work by Ohio visual artists. Through ongoing research, exhibition, and educational programs the AAWR actively documents and promotes this cultural heritage for the benefit of the public.
Founded in 1996 by Cleveland sculptor David E. Davis and other artists, the AAWR is the only archival facility of its kind in the United States. It preserves the art and art history of our region by conserving important works by Ohio artists, providing exhibition opportunities, and recording artists' life stories. By doing these things, the AAWR keeps Ohio artists' work "alive" and appreciated well beyond their lifetimes.
The AAWR offers an opportunity to preserve the integrity of an artist's work in perpetuity for the benefit of the public. Selections of archived artwork are displayed at various corporate locations throughout the region. We have an active program of exhibitions, publications, and web usage to enhance the professional credibility of our artists.
